Deadline is reporting that the documentary will focus on Van Nuys studio where Nirvana’s album ‘Nevermind’ was recorded. The studio has also been put to good use by Neil Young, Fleetwood Mac, Tom Petty, Cheap Trick and Guns’N’Roses.
The film will feature interviews with musicians and producers who recorded at the studio over the decades as well as history of the complex.
In a statement, Grohl hinted at a “full circle musical reunion” that could see the film culminate in a concert featuring an all-star lineup of Van Nuys alumni.
Considering the connections Grohl has and the number of musical collaborations he has done over the years it’s a likely prospect that he’ll be able to bring so many musicians together.
On top of ‘Sound City’ Grohl is also working on a comedy television series with FX that centers on a rock band on the verge of mega-stardom and breaking up who turn to a therapist for help.
Please tell me you’re joking. I mean, I LOVE Dave Grohl and all, as a musician. The Foo Fighters have some kick-ass songs, and Nirvana was (and still is) one of my all-time favorite bands. But I can’t imagine him as a director. They always say actors can’t be singers, and singers can’t be actors, because if they’re good at one thing, they’ll suck at the other. I’d predict that it’d be the same with Dave Grohl as a film director. Looking at the bright side, at least it’s a documentary, and it’s about music, so he’s working within his area.
