First image from Ang Lee’s ‘Life of Pi’

Ang Lee’s next film ‘Life of Pi’ is released December 2012 but you’d never know because the film is flying like a stealth bomber wrapped in a blanket under the radar.

The film is based on the book by Yann Martel that tells the story of a boy who gets stranded at sea in a lifeboat for 227 days with a Bengal tiger named Richard Parker, a hyena, a zebra, and an orangutan.

Despite the fact the story sounds like one of those hypothetical situations thrown at you on a work team building day, early word is that the film is being released in December for a potential awards run and the marketing for the film will pick up ahead of release and ride off the awards buzz.

Keep an eye on the project because Lee’s involvement is enough to keep us interested, not to mention the fact that many studios said the book to be too difficult to make.

The degree of difficulty is upped by the fact that Lee is shooting the film for a 3D release.

The film stars Suraj Sharma, Tobey Maguire, Irrfan Khan, Adil Hussain, and Gerard Depardieu.
