I’m on a boat! Russell Crowe is ‘Noah’
Today, the worst kept secret became official with Paramount Pictures and New Regency announcing that Russell Crowe will play Noah in Darren Aronofsky’s biblical epic ‘Noah’.
Apparently, Aaronofsky has been shopping the project around for quite some time and Crowe’s involvement was probably one of the reasons the production got the green-light because it’s rumoured to have a large budget of over $100 million.
Hit the jump for more details.
In a press release Aronofsky said, “I’d like to thank Paramount and Regency for backing my team’s work to breathe new life into the biblical epic. I rejoice that Russell Crowe will be by my side on this adventure. It’s his immense talent that helps me to sleep at night. I look forward to being wowed by him every day.”
‘Noah’ will be a close adaptation of the Biblical story of Noah’s Ark. In a world ravaged by human sin, Noah is given a divine mission: to build an Ark to save creation from the coming flood.
The screenplay was written by Aronofsky and Ari Handel and revised by Academy Award nominated screenwriter John Logan (‘Gladiator and ‘Hugo’).
Expect to hear the words ‘gritty’, ‘retelling’ and ‘realistic’ thrown around a lot with this project.
We can already hear fanatical religious types painting protest signs.
Paramount has set a release date, 28 March 2014 with shooting to commence this July in Iceland and New York.
