Lionsgate has a shortlist of directors for ‘Catching Fire’

Lionsgate hasn’t wasted any time trying to look for a director for the sequel for ‘The Hunger Games’ after Gary Ross announced he wouldn’t return to direct ‘Catching Fire’.

The reason why Lionsgate are moving quickly is because they’re running out of time with shooting on the film planned to begin in August so they can have access to Jennifer Lawrence before she reports to Fox for the ‘X-Men: First Class’ sequel in January 2013.

Lionsgate have drawn up a shortlist of directors they will pursue.

Hit the jump to see who they are.

24 Frames is reporting that the following directors have been shortlisted by Lionsgate:

David Cronenburg (‘The Fly’, ‘Scanners’ and ‘Videodrome)

Alfonso Cuaron (‘Harry Potter and the Prizoner of Azkaban’ and ‘Children of Men’)

Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu (’21 Grams’, ‘Babel’ and ‘Buitiful)

The list is said to contain seven or eight names and ‘Hunger Games’ author Suzanne Collins, who also acts as an executive producer on the films, has requested directors more interested in “quality filmmaking than box-office prowess.”

Expect an official announcement soon as time is running short for whoever gets the job.

‘Catching Fire’ is released 22 November 2013.
