‘The Hunger Games’ shot down any chances the new release films had of success by earning $58.6 million and pushing the total gross to $248 million in the second week of release. ‘The Hunger Games’ is a monster hit and has put Lionsgate in the top three highest grossing studios in 2012 off new releases. Lionsgate is currently out grossing heavyweight studios including Warner Brothers, Paramount, Disney and 20th Century Fox.

With an alleged budget of $150 million plus marketing costs, ‘Wrath of the Titans’ performed poorly with $33 million and while on the subject of bloated budgets; ‘Mirror Mirror’ earned $18.1 million working off an alleged budget of $80 million.

’21 Jump Street’ is on track to pas $100 million soon and ‘Dr Seuss’ The Lorax’ is close to tipping over the $200 million mark.

‘Salmon Fishing in the Yemen’ made a small cameo in the top ten after four weeks in a limited release. Its appearance was the result of expanded screenings that is set to grow over the coming weeks as the film opens overseas and the chance of positive buzz.
