The Hobbit Production Video

Peter Jackson is heading back to Middle Earth and he is taking you on the journey.

Jackson is bringing ‘The Hobbit’ to the big screen in two parts, ‘The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey’ and ‘The Hobbit: There and Back Again’. Filming has begun in New Zealand as Jackson shoots the films back to back. The best part is we don’t have to wait months to see footage or trailers, Jackson is releasing a series of production videos that take you behind the scenes.

I was sceptical about what kind of footage would be used in these production diaries because behind the scenes videos are usually poorly executed marketing exercises. They often feature very little footage or insight into the film making process. Usually all you get are a series of talking heads featuring actors reliving how amazing the experience was, when you know the highlight of their experience was the amount of cocaine they snorted in their trailer.

Jackson is generous enough to show off all the hard work his crew is putting into making ‘The Hobbit. We’re only two episodes in and the access is amazing which is a credit to Jackson who knows how to properly treat fans and involve them in the process.

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey is released December 14, 2012.

The Hobbit: There and Back Again is released December 13, 2013.
