Celebrate the little victories

24 Aug

‘The Avengers’ is one of my favourite films of the year so far and what writer/director Joss Whedon did was really special.

The film is about to hit DVD and Blu-Ray in Australia on 29 August and there is a trailer to promote the release that features The Popcorn Junkie.

The commercial originally aired on television in Australia when the film first came out and it’s getting rolled out again for the home release.

Check it out below.

And if you blinked during the trailer here it is again.

Read the original gushy review of ‘The Avengers’ here.

I wanted to also take a moment to personally thank anyone who has read one of my reviews. Your support means a lot and although we might not always agree, it’s always fun geeking out over films together – the good, the bad and the Michael Bay.

Thank you so much you ridiculously good looking film lovers.

Joss Whedon thanks his fans after ‘Avengers’ success

10 May

Writer/director/geek God Joss Whedon, has delivered financial and critical success with ‘The Avengers’.

The achievement is now etched in the Hollywood record books as ‘The Avengers’ continues to haul in the cash and keep cinema receipt printers running out of paper.

It’s amazing to see how many people have already seen the film two or three times (we’re up to three) and it has been a long time since a film has managed to inspire so many repeat viewings upon release.

It seems Whedon has a very level head and has written a thank you letter to his fans over at Whedonesque (via Collider).

Hit the jump the check out the response.

Review – The Avengers

20 Apr

Be prepared for a LOT of gushing over Marvel Studio’s ‘The Avengers’. I’m going to give it to you straight; the film is phenomenally awesome. No review for the film really matters anyway because you’d be mental to miss the biggest superhero film event since we were pooped out from the big bang. Therefore, the burning question – is it the greatest superhero movie ever made? Our yardstick for the perfect superhero film is Christopher Nolan’s ‘The Dark Knight’ and Richard Donner’s ‘Superman’. ‘The Avengers’ gets the bronze medal behind these films but serves as one of the best blockbusters ever made and is a fantastic accomplishment of Marvel Studios and writer/director Joss Whedon.

Dammit Disney and Marvel Studios!

If you follow us on Twitter you’ll know we complain a lot about promo fatigue with ‘The Avengers’ – we just want to see it now.

Right when we vow not to watch another clip or featurette, Disney and Marvel send over a bunch of new goodies that are just plain awesome.

Two clips to share:

One clip is a featurette featuring director Joss Whedon and stars Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans and Scarlett Johansson talking about assembling an extraordinary cast to play Earth’s Mightiest Heroes – The Avengers.

The second clip features Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark / Iron Man confronting Tom Hiddleston as Loki on the challenge he has set himself against The Avengers.
